Valedictorian Speech 2015

                                                                                                               VALIDICTORIAN SPEECH

So, here we are, almost at the end of our journey at primary school. But at the same time, we’re about to start a whole new journey in high-school, just as we started our journey here in prep. I would like to congratulate my fellow year 6 classmates who have also completed their journeys. It has been an honour to be at Moonee Ponds Primary School for the past 7 years.  In some ways, these 7 years have been long and short. Long because of all the drama and extra homework, short because of the life-long friendships, the lasting memories and the truly amazing things we have learnt throughout our time here. Good or bad, long or short, I will always remember this place. Our teachers, of course, spend an inhuman amount of time here, and most students do as well. Most of them even do it off their own choosing.

I remember when it was my first day at school; I was in a surrounding that I didn’t know. But as time went on, I started to like this place. By the end of prep, I already made quite a few friends. I remember I used to chase Tait, Cian, Ben and Ferris around at Lunchtimes, and once I even crossed the red line and got in trouble for the first time. By year one, I started bragging about being older than all the preps and grade ones, until one day, Madeline Vorrias approached me and ben grey and asked us if we were preps last year, we nodded. Then she started bragging about being in grade two, and I had learnt my lesson.

Whatever we decide, most of us will agree that Moonee Ponds Primary School was a great place to foster our minds and bodies in this critical learning phase. I am a totally different person than I was seven years ago. I hope I am also a better one. I learnt so much- my interests, myself and so on. I feel like if I go back in time, my younger self won’t recognise me! I hope this passion for learning carries on when I have to search out into myself instead of biking into class and taking notes.

In grade two, I had one of the greatest learning years, being the spelling bee in the class! The biggest event was the grade two sleep-over. That’s when we first got to sleep at the SPC; boys were on one side, and a whole row of girls on the other side. There were only about 10 boys in grade two then, so we took a little corner. We had casual clothes on that day, so that was awesome. I slept next to Tait, and we practically talked all night.

Grade three was one of my best years at M.P.P.S. I missed camp that year, as we were off to London, so I had something better than camp. But I did hear that camp was great that year. We did quite a few special things in Zoya’s class that none of the other classes did, like having a fish and chips picnic at the end of the year. The most interesting part was that I never got full marks on my maths tests until the very last test, when I got 50 out of 50. Now that’s a huge improvement!

The biggest thing I have learnt again and again, I am probably speaking for a lot of us here, is that we only get one trip around this rock. We might as well enjoy it. If you find a balance between work, school or otherwise and have fun. “All Work and no Play makes jack a dull boy.” It’s not just the quote from a movie, it’s the truth. A well rounded person is someone who knows a little bit about every topic his or her friends discuss. And an interesting person can take that information and make a conversation about it. Even if his or her knowledge is lacking.

Grade four was very interesting, as I was in ant’s class. I loved the way he taught us things beyond our learning standards. It really helped on the following year in lee’s class. The most interesting part about grade four was camp. We had three days to explore sovereign hill. We focused on learning more about Australian History. In class, we also got to pour water on our heads on very hot days when everyone had a water bottle. That was pretty awesome. But that’s not it, I also got my pen licence that year.

In grade five, I obviously loved being in lee’s class as I really like being around software (that’s why I want to be a software engineer). That year was also one of my best years at M.P.P.S. with a load of friends in my class. It was also one of my huge learning years, as I improved A LOT on my handwriting, making speeches including impromptu speeches and much more. By the end of that year, I was a completely different person than I was at the start.

Others may get the right to work, or even take a year or more off to decide what they want to do. Leaving primary school is such a brutal decision, that I don’t know what the world has in store for us. Just thinking about all those exams and decisions between high schools give me the headaches! But I do know how do deal with those life events, though: By using the skills and information I have picked up here. It all comes down to help, and I have got plenty of people to thank for that. Parents, of course, teachers, friends. I guess the biggest thing I have learnt in primary school is to help others when needed.

Finally, in grade six, my last year in primary school, I am in Jude’s class. I learnt quite a few new statements and words. I think the biggest event of this year was Camp, which I sadly missed due to the confusion of a trip to Bangladesh. Jude tells us heaps of stories in class time…so I guess I’m lucky to be in Jude’s class!

To everyone who changed our lives, we all say thank you. To Parents who stood by us no matter what. To teachers who tried to give us a passion for learning. To administrators who tried to make our primary school experiences as amazing as possible. To friends who were always by our side and all the people we depend on. Without each other, there would be no purpose of being here, no way to advance. Life, like society, is exactly how we make of it. So I thank everyone for being with us in every step.

Behind the News: Albert Einstein

Hello and welcome everyone to my latest post and today’s topic is all about this weeks BTN in which the topic is called: Albert Einstein. It’s all about how 100 years ago Albert Einstein announced general theory of relativity in the world. I hope you enjoy reading and don’t forget to comment and follow/subscribe! The world has acknowledged some great idea’s by Albert Einstein. But the one that made him REALLY POPULAR was the publishing of the general theory of relativity back in 1915. So technically, we are celebrating the 100th year of that Establishment. To be honest, this is ACTUALLY helping other scientists even today to find out how the universe runs.

Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879, and he was a REALLY normal kid. He was pretty good with maths and OK with school. But he is known to have dropped out of school at the age of 15, as he was trying out for this university, but apparently, he failed. Yep, even the worlds best scientist can fail an exam. Eventually, he moved into Switzerland and studied in uni there to become a teacher. After completing graduation,the only problem was the he couldn’t find any teaching jobs. So he worked at a patent’s office and checked out other people’s inventions, while thinking of some himself.

In 1905, he published some famous formula’s, some of which you’ve seen before, like E=MC2. But that is not Albert Einsteins main focus. In 1915, as you might already know, he published his general theory of relativity. It’s all about the relation-ship of space and time, and it gave us our best understandings of how space, time and gravity works.

one of two understandings I now have include: Even 100 years later, the theory is still really important how it’s helped scientists explain things such as the existence of black holes, how time travel is possible and how the universe formed, all of which is inspiring study in physics and Astronomy.

AND

Not long after Albert Einstein published his general theory of relativity, he became famous all around the world, and in 1921, he won the noble prize for physics. That just proves why Albert Einstein is so important in our history, even after 100 years of the establishment.

Finally, one question I now have includes: When did Albert Einstein die?

Behind the News: Astranout Ad–17/11/15

Hello and welcome everyone to my latest post and today’s topic is all about this weeks BTN which is dedicated to being an Astronaut and its advertisements. Many young kids dream of becoming an astronaut when they grow up. And now NASA has announced the exact requirements needed to make that dream a reality. I hope you enjoy reading and don’t forget to comment and follow/subscribe! So what are we waiting for? Let’s release the NEWS!!!

NASA just put out ad calling for new young future astronauts for future missions, even to Mars! NASA says it’ll need a lot more astronauts for its future missions including those to Mars, as I just said before. And it’s really important to get the very best people for the job! NASA says that shouldn’t stop Aussie kids from dreaming big.

All you have to do is pass a physical test. You must be at least 1.5 to 1.9 M tall. On top of that, you also need a good vision. Then, you need a university degree on any topic such as Mathematics, Science, physics and etc. Then there is a lot of other tests and training from a wide range of people such as teachers, military, engineers and much more. But only a few get through to the next stage. Then your good to go! 🙂

The first astronauts were selected way back in 1959. Originally, they came from the military, and most of them were pilots! WHY? Because only people from the military where allowed to enter. But today, as I said in the previous fact, you can have any profession to be an Astronaut!  

one of two understandings I now have include: that a trip to MARS is going to take place very soon as NASA is already preparing youngsters to train to be an astronaut.

AND

There are many stages in which you must apply in order to become an Astronaut, starting from a physical test to a university degree to a astronomy test and a LOT of stages to do with-in that! So, it’s complicated!

Finally, one question I now have include: When will NASA plan and start it’s journey towards MARS and how many Astronauts will be selected to go?

Hello and welcome everyone to my latest post about Astronomy in which I will share my experience of reading a book called “Astronomy 101” by Carolyn Peterson. I hope you enjoy reading and don’t forget to comment and Subscribe! So what are we waiting for? Let’s Release the Facts!

The world we inhabit today was formed 4.5 billion years ago, along with all the other planets and stars in the Solar System. Before I start sharing my experience on reading “Astronomy 101” by Carolyn Peterson, I would just like to make it clear for those of you who don’t know, an astronomical unit is the measurement between the distance of Earth and the Sun! So, let’s start of with the formation of the solar system. This is NOT what I gained from this book, instead, I learnt the following paragraphs of information from a documentary.

Formation of the Solar System

4.5 Billion years ago, there was nothing in what we call the Solar System today. A proto-star Nebula is the birth cloud of the Solar System. All that could be seen was a bunch of rocks forming a core. The bunch of rocks that were forming a core is what we call a “Terrestrial Planet” today, as it has actual rock in it. Therefore, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are the inter-terrestrial planets.

After quite a few years(not 1, not 2, not 3, but MILLIONS of years later), The planets and stars had been fully formed. What we call Earth today was a very different planet 4.5 Billion years. Earth was just a planet with flowing,, non-stop lava, with no land, no water, no life and no nothing.

Eventually, a nearing planet called Thea collided with Earth, and this collision cause a tiny part to break away, and that is what we call the moon today. The collision also gave Earth land. But although we had land, the planet was still inhabited with flowing lava(from the volcanoes). How did they go away? The climate started to change, drying up all the lave and making most active Volcanoes inactive. Then, left-over dust from creating the planets(Including Asteroids and Comets), holding water(Separated between salt water and normal water) came falling down on earth. But this didn’t happen only for 1 day, neither a week, nor a month, nor a year, instead, for MILLIONS of years. This allowed Earth to be inhabited with flowing water, allowing the existence of Life.

Life on Earth

Overtime, small plants started growing over the sea-side. As they got fully grown, they release their petals and oxygen came flowing through Earth. This allowed many Mammals, Fish, and insects to form. At that time, insects were INCREDIBLY large, but after the Dinosaur age, meteorite rushed down to Earth and made most big animals such as Dinosaurs extinct, while some big animals shrunk into small animals and insects. Some people say that all Dinosaurs are extinct and there isn’t any found today. But actually, a whole flying species of Dinosaurs survived the damage of the severe damage of the meteorite, and evolved into Birds. Eventually, humans came to Earth until today(Not supporting Darwin’s theory of Evolution).

The Sun and stars

a star is actually a type of sun(Large, medium and small). So all the bright stars that you see at night, are really hot, boiling suns. As you can see, they differ in size, that’s because they are separated into Large, Medium and Small. Our own sun is a medium. Clouds of dust form to create a star, very similar to planets. Overtime, as stars(suns) age, they become a red giant. That’s when they become really hot and release large amounts of heat. Our sun is only a Medium, and it’s turn is coming. Once it turns into a red giant, there will be nothing to stop it. Eventually Red Giants become so hot, that they explode. The universe isn’t old enough for any large stars to explode, but you can’t tell time, can you?

Now lets get a bit deeper in our understanding of planets. We’ll do them in order, so first, we’ll start of with Mercury.

Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun in the solar system, which means that it’s days are much larger than usual, and a year is much smaller than usual. GO FIGURE! a year in Mercury is 88 Earth days, while a day is only 59 earth days. Mercury is a planet that has thousands of Asteroids hitting it. So day by day, Mercury is getting older and older, faster and faster(see the rhythm)? Sadly, there has only been two missions to Mercury. the MESSENGER space craft and the Hubble space craft. There are no future missions to Mercury planned just yet.

Now, for a bit of earths evil twin, Venus!

Venus

Venus is known as Earth’s evil twin, as these two planets are reasonably the same size. But Venus is just Earth in a few hundred years. It has thousands of active volcanoes, erupting heaps of lava through-out the planet, and experiences heaps of tectonics(Earthquakes). So far, there have been 38 missions to Venus, and there are quite a few more missions planned to be sent in future. The reason why Venus is so hot is because of all the green-house gases it releases, allowing more heat to enter the planet from the sun(Plus, Venus is closer to the sun than Earth). Toxic Clouds cover Venus, and anything less than 50 meters gets demolished as soon as it touches the clouds(I know, dangerous). A day in Venus is 117 earth days, while a year is 224.7 Earth days.

Now, lets get into our home planet, Earth!

Earth

Did you know that a day on Earth is really 23 hours and 56 minutes? Well, it is. You already know that 24 hours is a day, and 365.24 days is a year(.24 because of a leap year every four years). As you already know, earth is neither too cold, nor too warm, its in such a position that it’s mixed. That’s why life exists! Scientists are vibrantly trying to find life on other planets, so we have a second place to live in(Just in case, you know). Millions of years ago,a day on Earth actually used to be 6 hours, which meant a much shorter year(One quarter shorter, that’s around-about 90 days)! Why? Because the moon was much closer to Earth than it is now. The moon slowly started moving away from earth, making the days longer and longer, until today. But today, the moon is still moving away. It will even continue when there will be no solar eclipse(Which is coming up shortly). Eventually, a day on Earth will be as long as ever, until one day, earth will stop spinning and a big rip will take place(The end of the world). NOTE: this was only discovered not so long ago, while it was said in the holy Quran 1400 years ago!

Now, for a bit of earths natural satellite, the moon!

The Moon

There have been 10 Lunar missions to the moon, while 24 Astronauts flew to the moon, and 12 Astronauts actually stepped in the moon. The first and most popular person who was the very first person to step into the moon was Neil Armstrong, an American Astronaut, who unfortunately, died in August 2012. The first time anyone ever stepped into the moon was in 1969. The moon changes it’s face every 28 days. It’s starts of with a crescent moon, to a full moon. Sometimes, a full moon can be really large. But recently after it broke of from earth, it was larger than anyone could imagine. It was SO BIG! The moon takes a big part in history, as the solar eclipse takes place every few years. The solar eclipse is when the moon completely blocks of the suns light, and as the light of the moon is reflected from the sunlight, there’s no light from the moon that night. It last happened n 2014, and I can’t wait for it to happen again. If I’m still alive, that is.

Now, for a bit of the red planet, Mars!

Mars

 Mars, as we know it, is called the red planet, because of it’s iron oxides(rust) in the soil. Mars actually has all the essential needs for life, as it is earth-like, has ice caps, which prove there is frozen ice, and has vast plains and a pale, cloudy sky, just like earth. But all that’s missing, is water, a thick atmosphere and life itself. Although scientists say there is officially no water on mars, there is some proof that the presence of water may actually be possible. Mars formed 4.5 Billion years ago, just like all the other planets and stars. 1.88 earth years is one year in Mars, while one day is equivalent to 24 hours, 37 minutes. Mars-the red planet represents the god of war in at-least a dozen cultures. Mars has heaps of active volcanoes, but not as much as Venus and Earth. The most popular one is mt Volcans. Unlike Earth, Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. No man has ever set foot on mars before, just like any other planet in the solar system. So far, there have been 38 missions to Mars, and there are many more missions that are planned to be sent in future.

Now, let’s get into a gas giant, also known as the king of the planets, Jupiter!

Jupiter

Jupiter is known as the king of the planets because it is the largest in the solar system. more than 1300 earths could fit inside the HUGE gas giant. Jupiter is actually a weird planet, as the interior consists of a series of metallic and liquid hydrogen layers covering an earth-sized, partially rocky core. Jupiter takes 12 years to go around the sun, which means 1 year is 11.8 earth years, and the length of a day is 10 hours. It’s gravity is 2.64 of Earths Gravity, and it’s tilt of axes is 3.13 degrees. Jupiter is 5 times further than the sun than Earth. It is the strongest magnetic field in the Solar system, and contains 63 known moons. The most popular moons include Io, Europa and two others discovered by Galileo Galilei. That’s why these four moons are called the Galilean moons. Io is the closest moon to Jupiter and is filled with volcanic eruptions. Europa is mostly oxygen, allowing life to exist. the other two planets are not quite as active as Io and Europa. Jupiter is the solar system’s vacuum cleaner, as it sucks in dust and rocks around it. The top layers of Jupiter wind through three regions at a speed of 600 km/h, forming an ongoing storm which has been active for more than 6 thousand years, called the Great Red Spot. Faint, thin rings circle Jupiter. Scientists just recently discovered this. It’s amazing that all the gas giants in our solar system have a ring system. It’s actually said that earth used to have one, but that eventually faded away, just like Jupiter, Saturn’s and the other two gas giants rings will.

Now for a bit of the original ring world, Saturn!

Saturn

Saturn’s rings extends for more than 121 thousand KM away from Saturn! They are also extremely beautiful. Saturn has 62 known moons, including Titan, Enceladus, mimas, rheam dione, Iapetes, Hethyes and much more.(All named after the Greek gods and Titans{I know because I’ve read Percy Jackson}). Saturn is also a gas giant, and 29.4 earth years equals 1 year in Saturn! While a day is 10 hours and 39 minutes. Saturn is one of the most popular planets to view from a telescope, as it is SO LARGE that 763 earths could fit inside it. Four spacecrafts have visited Saturn before. Obviously, Saturn is too far for anyone to walk in, and it is too dangerous to for human’s anyway. Since 10 hours and 39 minutes is a day in Saturn, it causes the planet to flatten. It has an 1800 winds-blow and was formed 4.5 Billion years ago, just like the other planets and stars in the solar system, with a rocky core like the terrestrial planets. The tilt of axes in Saturn is 26.73 degrees, while the gravity is 0.92 of earths gravity. There are no future missions to Saturn planned, but hopefully, in future, there will be numerous planned missions, especially to examine it’s beautiful ring. This awesome ring was discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610. It took almost 250 years to examine it’s true nature. Dutch Astronomer Cristiaan Huygens(1629-1695) looked through a more powerful telescope and decided that some sort of materiel surrounded the planet. In 1675, Giovanni Demenico Cassini determined the ring to be composed of multiple rings with gaps between them. The true nature of the ring system of small particles in orbit around Saturn was first proposed by James Clerk Maxwell(1831-1879), in 1859. Eventually, when the Voyagers 1 and 2 and the Cassini mission explored this world, their images showed Myriad ringlets, with gaps containing dust and small embedded moon-lets that cause complex patterns in the rings such as waves, wakes and other transient features.

Now for a bit of the tipped over giant and the third Gas Giant, Uranus!

Eventually, a day on Earth will be as long as ever, until one day, earth will stop spinning and a big rip will take place(The end of the world). NOTE: this was only discovered not so long ago, while it was said in the holy Quran 1400 years ago!

Now, for a bit of earths natural satellite, the moon!

The Moon

There have been 10 Lunar missions to the moon, while 24 Astronauts flew to the moon, and 12 Astronauts actually stepped in the moon. The first and most popular person who was the very first person to step into the moon was Neil Armstrong, an American Astronaut, who unfortunately, died in August 2012. The first time anyone ever stepped into the moon was in 1969. The moon changes it’s face every 28 days. It’s starts of with a crescent moon, to a full moon. Sometimes, a full moon can be really large. But recently after it broke of from earth, it was larger than anyone could imagine. It was SO BIG! The moon takes a big part in history, as the solar eclipse takes place every few years. The solar eclipse is when the moon completely blocks of the suns light, and as the light of the moon is reflected from the sunlight, there’s no light from the moon that night. It last happened n 2014, and I can’t wait for it to happen again. If I’m still alive, that is.

Now, for a bit of the red planet, Mars!

Mars

 Mars, as we know it, is called the red planet, because of it’s iron oxides(rust) in the soil. Mars actually has all the essential needs for life, as it is earth-like, has ice caps, which prove there is frozen ice, and has vast plains and a pale, cloudy sky, just like earth. But all that’s missing, is water, a thick atmosphere and life itself. Although scientists say there is officially no water on mars, there is some proof that the presence of water may actually be possible. Mars formed 4.5 Billion years ago, just like all the other planets and stars. 1.88 earth years is one year in Mars, while one day is equivalent to 24 hours, 37 minutes. Mars-the red planet represents the god of war in at-least a dozen cultures. Mars has heaps of active volcanoes, but not as much as Venus and Earth. The most popular one is mt Volcans. Unlike Earth, Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. No man has ever set foot on mars before, just like any other planet in the solar system. So far, there have been 38 missions to Mars, and there are many more missions that are planned to be sent in future.

Now, let’s get into a gas giant, also known as the king of the planets, Jupiter!

Jupiter

Jupiter is known as the king of the planets because it is the largest in the solar system. more than 1300 earths could fit inside the HUGE gas giant. Jupiter is actually a weird planet, as the interior consists of a series of metallic and liquid hydrogen layers covering an earth-sized, partially rocky core. Jupiter takes 12 years to go around the sun, which means 1 year is 11.8 earth years, and the length of a day is 10 hours. It’s gravity is 2.64 of Earths Gravity, and it’s tilt of axes is 3.13 degrees. Jupiter is 5 times further than the sun than Earth. It is the strongest magnetic field in the Solar system, and contains 63 known moons. The most popular moons include Io, Europa and two others discovered by Galileo Galilei. That’s why these four moons are called the Galilean moons. Io is the closest moon to Jupiter and is filled with volcanic eruptions. Europa is mostly oxygen, allowing life to exist. the other two planets are not quite as active as Io and Europa. Jupiter is the solar system’s vacuum cleaner, as it sucks in dust and rocks around it. The top layers of Jupiter wind through three regions at a speed of 600 km/h, forming an ongoing storm which has been active for more than 6 thousand years, called the Great Red Spot. Faint, thin rings circle Jupiter. Scientists just recently discovered this. It’s amazing that all the gas giants in our solar system have a ring system. It’s actually said that earth used to have one, but that eventually faded away, just like Jupiter, Saturn’s and the other two gas giants rings will.

Now for a bit of the original ring world, Saturn!

Saturn

Saturn’s rings extends for more than 121 thousand KM away from Saturn! They are also extremely beautiful. Saturn has 62 known moons, including Titan, Enceladus, mimas, rheam dione, Iapetes, Hethyes and much more.(All named after the Greek gods and Titans{I know because I’ve read Percy Jackson}). Saturn is also a gas giant, and 29.4 earth years equals 1 year in Saturn! While a day is 10 hours and 39 minutes. Saturn is one of the most popular planets to view from a telescope, as it is SO LARGE that 763 earths could fit inside it. Four spacecrafts have visited Saturn before. Obviously, Saturn is too far for anyone to walk in, and it is too dangerous to for human’s anyway. Since 10 hours and 39 minutes is a day in Saturn, it causes the planet to flatten. It has an 1800 winds-blow and was formed 4.5 Billion years ago, just like the other planets and stars in the solar system, with a rocky core like the terrestrial planets. The tilt of axes in Saturn is 26.73 degrees, while the gravity is 0.92 of earths gravity. There are no future missions to Saturn planned, but hopefully, in future, there will be numerous planned missions, especially to examine it’s beautiful ring. This awesome ring was discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610. It took almost 250 years to examine it’s true nature. Dutch Astronomer Cristiaan Huygens(1629-1695) looked through a more powerful telescope and decided that some sort of materiel surrounded the planet. In 1675, Giovanni Demenico Cassini determined the ring to be composed of multiple rings with gaps between them. The true nature of the ring system of small particles in orbit around Saturn was first proposed by James Clerk Maxwell(1831-1879), in 1859. Eventually, when the Voyagers 1 and 2 and the Cassini mission explored this world, their images showed Myriad ringlets, with gaps containing dust and small embedded moon-lets that cause complex patterns in the rings such as waves, wakes and other transient features.

Now for a bit of the tipped over giant and the third Gas Giant, Uranus!
